0-4: Almeria start off their year with the best result

Almeria found the net easily and showed a stunning perfomance with class, quality and high intensity. The team hold onto promotion positions

UD Almería started off 2020 in the best possible way with a clear victory against Lugo. The 0-4 victory laid down a marker and told all the teams in the Second Division that the rojiblancos -who turned blue as they wore their away shirts today- are clear contenders to get promoted to First Division. This win serves as a turning point to close the gap with the current leaders, who are only 5 points ahead. The result could have been even better due to the numerous and clear scoring chances of our team.

Almeria was mightier than their opponents throughout the game. They were really intense from beginning to end, despite getting away as quickly as possible, the squad pressed their rival regaining possession of the ball and keeping a clean sheet. Some players produced fine finishes to complete a brilliant counter-attack vs Lugo.

José María Gutiérrez bet again on a starting line-up with 3 defenders (Maras, Petrovic and Iván Martos), accompanied by two full-backs (Balliu and Jonathan). The midfielders César de la Hoz and Aguza gave consistency with the mobility of Lazo. Darwin Núñez, who scored a brace, and Juan Muñoz were key players in the game.

It did not take long for Almeria to get ahead on the scoreboard. It was 10 minutes when Darwin Núñez scored an early opener thanks to his teammate Juan Muñoz’s pass. From there, UD Almeria were smashing.
