0-3: Disappointing Segunda RFEF debut for UD Almería Women

The great effectiveness of CD Pozoalbense and a controversial decision that could have led to a one-all draw were the highlights of the season-opener

UD Almería Women had a disappointing RFEF Segunda Division 'Grupo Sur' debut. The team led by head coach Álvaro García Búrdalo fell to a comprehensive 0-3 defeat. The girls did not deserve to lose considering the good performance put in on a their opening game in which the effectiveness in front of goal of CD Pozoalbense was decisive. With the game at 0-, the Indálicas claimed a clear penalty that was not awarded and this put the visitors ahead who then took advantage of it to extend their lead until the final whistle.

With great enthusiasm for making their debut in the tier, UD Almeria Women began the clash looking to start the league on a good foot. As a result, several important plays would be seen, with a one-on-one that stood out at the hands of Fatima that the goalkeeper denied. When it seemed that the hosts would put themselves in front, the Cordoba-based side found a space and Lucía opened the scoring (0-1) through the first shot.

The Rojiblancas plucked up the courage in the clash, being close to cancelling out the visiting team's opener before the break in a play created by Angeles that was blocked with a great save from the opposing goalkeeper and also in a strike by Mati which hit the post.

The second half arrived and with it the controversial decision. UD Almería Women came out onto the pitch brave and Marisa was close to defeating keeper Lorena. Valuable minutes played by the Indálicas shone and it would be then when the ref did not award a clear penalty on Ángela Moreno, an unfair decision that affected negatively the players in red and white colours, who did not manage to grow back into the game.

Moments after, Sofia had the opportunity to score a great goal inside 67 minutes following a counter-attack preceded by a a foul in favour of the home team. The visitors doubled their lead (0-2) and immediately afterwards, this same player made it 0-3. That was the final score with nothing more important to highlight. Therefore, UD Almería Women did not have a good debut in the Segunda Division RFEF, although this defeat can serve to learn their lesson towards a season that will be certainly highly competitive.

It is worth pointing out that this was a charity match, since the UDA Foundation carried out a collection of toys, school supplies and clothing for Lebanon, items that will be transported to their destination by the Spanish Legion, who have to go on trip there.
