UD Almería 'B' triumph in Andalusian derby against Atlético Malagueño
The Academy prospects bounce back with crucial away win after opening day defeat to Recreativo de Huelva
UD Almería 'B' secured their first victory of the season in the fourth-tier Segunda RFEF Group IV with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Atlético Malagueño. The match, part of the competition's 'B' teams fixtures, was held at the Málaga CF Foundation Sports Complex and the young Indálicos showcased resilience following their disappointing season opener.
After a 2-1 loss to Recreativo de Huelva on Matchday 1, head coach Alberto Lasarte emphasised the importance of bouncing back, especially against local rivals Atlético Malagueño.
Despite a strong start from the home team, who came into the match eager to recover from their own 3-2 loss in Extremadura, UD Almería 'B' remained composed. The first half saw a number of opportunities and plenty of end-to-end activity but ended with no goals, as both sides struggled to break the deadlock.
The defining moment of the contest came early in the second half. In the 52nd minute, the Atlético Malagueño goalkeeper was sent off for handling the ball outside the penalty area, leaving his side down to 10 men. Martim Alberto, one of the new signings for UD Almería 'B', took the resulting free-kick and made no mistake, finding the back of the net to put the visitors ahead 1-0.
Though Atlético Malagueño pushed for a leveller, the Rojiblancos' defence stood firm and they held onto their lead. The young UD Almería 'B' side even had opportunities to extend their advantage but were unable to convert. Ultimately, the 1-0 scoreline remained intact, securing a vital 3 points for the UDA Academy team.
