0-1: Almería Women punished by last-gasp winning goal

The Rojiblancas deserve a better result, but Cádiz take all three points with 85 minutes gone

The only goal conceded by UD Almería Women led to their 0-1 defeat against Cadiz CF Women. The Rojiblancas dominated the Amarillas over various moments of the game, yet the opponents found their way to score with five minutes to go. Already in stoppage time, Esther hit the woodwork, so the first defeat of 2021 could not be avoided.

The game saw two solid opponents who showed a great level on the Constantino Cortés artificial grass. Thus, during the first opening 45 minutes there were goal attempts in which the defenders had to make an effort to avoid the opponent's unwanted goal.

Almeria Women were the first side to enjoy a clear goal attempt following Nadia’s race action, which adversary Prián cleared. Shortly after, just before half-time, a Cadiz-based play was produced with a failed shot courtesy of Sarita aiming to beat goalie Andrea Ríos.

During the second half, Almería took even more control of the ball to the point that they forced Cádiz CF Women to drop back waiting for their chance to counter-attack. Having said that, the Rojiblancas were really close to the goal on 74 minutes, but the visiting keeper appeared again in a one-on-one against Fatima.

The Almeria ladies team continued to seize goalscoring opportunities until the final whistle. The Indálicas players were approaching the opposing team’s box while the game had gone flat until in the 85th minute, Valería found the net to make it 0-1.

UD Almería Women fought their way back into the game until the final whistle and were about to score, even though the ref extended the game up to 97 minutes. That’s when Esther whipped a free-kick to the crossbar assisted by Prián, who was undeniable the heroine of the Cadiz CF Women.
