‘You can tell from the players’ attitude that they wanted to change things’

José Gomes highlights that Almería were deeply involved in the game at all times determined to produce a comeback

‘We didn’t want to draw…we walked out onto the pitch to try to win,’ was UD Almeria head coach José Gomes’ post-game reaction, after the Rojiblancos shared the points with Cartagena on home turf. After the 90 minutes of action, the head coach did not hesitate to point out that ‘You can tell from the players’ attitude that they wanted to change things.’

As the Almeria’s gaffer sees it, ‘it is the same old story…the situation experienced against Las Palmas, in which there is a long ball, two mistakes and a goal.’ Thus, he stressed: ‘I have seen the players a little bit nervous thinking that they had to go all out for a win no matter what. Because of that pressure, we have made costly mistakes.’

In the opinion of José Gomes, Almería have been fully involved in the match and enjoyed ‘clear goal scoring opportunities. The important thing is that the team have made it clear that they wanted to change the result and we must remain positive after that,’ he concluded.
