‘We need a victory in Tenerife which will be a turning point’

Juan Villar stresses ‘this is a crucial moment of the season and we’re going to take a step forward"

There are some players competing in Segunda Division that have full voting rights due to their long career and wide experience. This is the case of UD Almeria right-winger Juan Villar. With more than two hundred games played in the second tier in Spain, the Rojiblanco striker recognises the utmost importance of this moment of the season: ‘This is a crucial moment. We want to take advantage of each of the things that the new head coach is giving us to gain confidence and get good feelings. We have obtained some back-to-back negative results but we’re working better than the results show. It seems that things don’t work out for us. We want to take a step forward and clinch that victory for our peace of mind. The team needs that victory that represents a turning point,’ he said in an interview on UDA Radio.

The 32-year-old player talked about Rubi: ‘He has new proposals and ideas and we’re getting to know his working method with the hope that this will help us go into the play-offs very well prepared. He’s a coach with very clear ideas and who analyses the adversaries in detail. He’s also transmitting calmness to us so we can do better. If a coach analyses your next opponents and when the game comes…exactly what you’ve been preparing happens… that’s what gives you a good feeling about a coach and this is the case,’ he stated on the Club's official radio station. Regarding the specific instructions that the players in the attacking line has received, he mentioned ‘it’s another way of moving to partner with your team-mates.’

The Rojiblanco attacker returns to the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium and therefore, it will be a special league appointment for him: ‘I’m returning to a place where things didn’t turn out the way I wanted because of several injuries. I didn’t give everything I’d have liked to give, although I left with good feeling of my time at the Club because I was really happy there. In the final stage, I was able to score goals as a regular starter. Some team-mates are still there and I’m fond of many people at the Club.’

UD Almería are currently third but they will have to string some back-to-back victories if they want to seal their promotion for the play-offs: ‘We have to get at least two victories to book a place and then add more wins to get into that promotion on the right foot. The four teams will be good and details will make the difference for sure.’
