Top-class striker Umar Sadiq gets off the mark against Cartagena

The Nigerian attacking player scores his very first goal playing for Almeria and could have scored more to break the deadlock

Umar Sadiq, one of the last signings made by UD Almería, demonstrated why he is an attacking player role model following his outstanding performance against Cartagena. The 23-year-old Nigerian striker, who signed a five-year deal moving from FK Partizan Belgrade, scored his first goal as a Rojiblanco and could have found the net more times to break the deadlock.

It was his second match as a starter, and it was certainly the highlight of his Almeria career so far. He did scare his opponents thanks to superb individual actions and finishing with both his feet or headers. Despite he is 1,92 metres tall, his fancy footwork helps him have the ball under control. Against Cartagena, he showed off his footie skills to build up the team’s game. He scored the equaliser, although he could have found the net more times before that in the opening 45 minutes. In the second half, he was a nightmare for the adversaries’ defence and after a towering header that was saved by the visiting goalie, João Carvalho failed to slot the ball into the back of the net, in what would have made it 2-1.

Sadiq played his first minutes as a Rojiblanco in Logroño, where he scored, although his goal was disallowed by the VAR in the end. Attacking-wise, the native of Kaduna was outstanding during the second half. In the Canary island of Las Palmas, on the previous matchday, he also tried his luck, but he did not get enough balls.
