‘Football have faded into the background; what matters now is getting over the tragedy we are experiencing’

José Carlos Lazo spoke from his home with UDA Radio, the official radio station of UD Almería

The UD Almeria’s winger, José Carlos Lazo, is concerned about the current situation related to the coronavirus and confined to his home, like the rest of his team-mates. Although he believes that ‘not being able to enjoy football makes us very upset’, stresses that ‘football have faded into the background; what matters now is getting over the tragedy that we are living.’

The Cádiz-born footballer, who spoke on UDA Radio, the club's official radio station, is in Almería with his partner ‘without leaving home, as the Spanish authorities have indicated, since it is the only way to avoid becoming infected; However, the player is deeply concerned about the fact that his family lives in Cádiz. I often video call them. It is a great option for keeping in touch with family and friends. We cheer each other up and give a lot of practical advice so as to cope with this situation in the best possible way, although it is being really difficult.’ He added that ‘fortunately, both my family and my partner’s are well.’

When training was interrupted, the player who wears the number 16 jersey, found himself working on the sidelines with a muscular injury. The winger missed the last two fixtures played against Cádiz and Deportivo de La Coruña. When he was asked about how he is feeling at the moment, the player did not hesitate to answer that ‘I think I am already recovered. I am following my own specific workout routine under the supervision of the club's medical services and the truth is that I no longer have any discomfort. I still have to prove it by playing the ball, but I am optimistic in this regard, so when we resume training, I am pretty sure I will be able to join my team-mates.’
