Almeria thrash Depor 4-0 to tighten grip in Second Division

After six match days failing to win, the Rojiblancos pull off a stunning victory again... what a brilliant way to win!

UD Almeria pulled off a comprehensive 4-0 victory after defeating Deportivo de La Coruña thanks to their fast combinations. Almeria, who showed their best form, were very active during almost the entire game played at Juegos Mediterraneos, making fans and supporters enjoy every second of the game.

The team’s improvement that the players were highlighting during the week was noticeable in a good first half. From the kick-off, Almeria tried to move quickly and their prize was taken in the 12th minute making it 1-0. In the play, Balliu and Corpas teamed up so that the ball ended up in the offensive third where Darwin Núñez overtook a defender and beat the goalie Dani Giménez.

The start gave hope to Almeria in a quiet first-half. However, Deportivo de la Coruña went through a phase in which the opponents took the initiative. That episode would not last too long, but it would give enough time for Mollejo to force Fernando to use his quick reflexes so as to safe a potential goal from the Galicians.

The UD Almeria first team were taking the lead by dribbling the ball down the right flank. With Vada’s channeling in the midfield, the Rojiblancos found their direct game thanks to Corpas and Balliu’s speed runs. Before half-time, the Catalan right-back scored the second making it 2-0 after 29 minutes.

After the match resumption, Almeria moved up and down the pitch with lightning speed when looking for the visiting team’s goal. In fact, the players did not beat around the bush; so we did not have to wait too long for the third goal to arrive. One minute, José Corpas’ shot hit the post, the next César de la Hoz got the ball back in the 18-yard box, allowing Juan Muñoz to kick the ball into the goal making it 3-0. Before that thrilling play, Fran Villalba was also close to score.

From that point until the final whistle, UD Almería managed to keep it up recording a stunning victory after six match days without bagging the three points. Despite the fact that Aketxe looked for the 'goal of honour', the adversary player would witness how Fernando saved it. José Corpas, one of the best players in the encounter, assisted Darwin and the last-minute winner went in (4-0). Depor received a severe drubbing at hands of Almeria.
