3-1: UD Almería prove authority on home turf

The Rojiblancos prove infinite patience and leave CD Tenerife without points after a superb second half

It was necessary to have infinite patience in order to be able to get the job at Juegos Mediterraneos. The Rojiblancos showed their authority on home turf after beating CD Tenerife 3-1. After a first half in which the islanders sit back, Rubi's men displayed a superb second-half performance that led them to the final score with goals from Ramazani, a penalty, Sadiq and an own goal. It seems that 3 is UD Almeria’s lucky number: 3 goals tonight, 3 more points and 3 home victories this season so far.

Rubi did not make any changes to the starting XI compared to the previous fixture, in which they thrashed AD Alcorcón 0-4. During the opening 45 minutes, the hosts were intense being the ones who really merited a goal, since CD Tenerife parked the bus basically. There were no clear chances before the break and the only highlight would be a good save by the visiting goalie blocking Portillo’s fine effort.

Everything changed with the arrival of the second period. The boys from Almeria showed endless patient and perfectly read the game, playing fantastic football after returning from the changing room. In fact, Ramazani did not take long to send warnings with a strike from the edge of the box but Juan Soriano was attentive to avert danger.

It was not until the 69th minute when the well-deserved award arrived. At that time, UD Almeria had already enjoyed several important opportunities, but at that moment was when a quick tempo and build-up at the hands of the Indalicos ended in a penalty awarded through Sadiq. Largie Ramazani was in charge of converting from 12 yards, showing calmness and a lot of quality when kicking the ball to send the keeper the wrong way (0-1).

Going ahead completely boosted the hosts’ energy. So much so that the combinations and scoring opportunities followed one another. 74 minutes in, striker Sadiq extended their lead after beating the goalkeeper producing a piece of magic. It was the 5th goal scored by the Nigerian attacker this season.

UD Almería were being far superior to CD Tenerife, who without having yet shot dangerously between the three sticks, had the golden opportunity to get into the game after scoring an 80-minute penalty, when the VAR warned the referee of a possible Centelles hand within the area. However, although it is true that with 2-1 Fernando had to make a worthwhile save, the clash headed back towards the Rojiblancos’ victory.

Despite the fact that the visitors tried to complete a comeback, UD Almeria went for more, making it 3-1 just before the final whistle by teaming up to tear the islanders apart through a wonderful play between Juanjo Nieto and Pozo, who crossed in. It was Šipčić who sent the ball to the back of the net scoring an own goal.

UD Almería exercised endless patience on Matchday 7 to end up ruining CD Tenerife’s plans and take all three points thanks to a spectacular second half, which confirmed the Rojiblancos’ authority at Juegos Mediterraneos.
