2-0: Darwin Núñez’s brace helps UD Almeria close gap on Cadiz CF

Almeria rediscovered the formula for keeping clean sheets and seal second consecutive victory. Darwin Núñez scored a brace.

UD Almeria seal a home victory again after beating Real Oviedo 2-0. In general, Almeria were superior, although it was not until the second-half when Darwin Núñez bagged a brace within 10 minutes, which allowed the rojiblancos to set seal on their victory without conceding any goals and closing the gap on Cadiz CF on 3 points.

Despite being a working day. there was an electrifying atmosphere at the Juegos Mediterraneos Stadium before the game kicked off. In this sense, apart from the nearly 9,000 spectators, the club premiered the new lighting with a jaw-dropping light show that gave rise to the fans’ excitement and first cheers.

The game had already started when Real Oviedo tried to dominate possession, but it did not take Almeria long to try their luck with a first-half turnaround. After 11 minutes, Juan Muñoz crossed the ball onto the offensive third, but then it touched a defender so that Lunin had to pull his socks up to deflect the ball safely away from the goal.

Almeria dominated the ball for long spells. José María Gutiérrez’s side created numerous gilt-edged chances. In any case, it was not their most successful day of passing because Real Oviedo was determined to keep a clean sheet.

José María Gutiérrez realised that things were not working out as planned, so he made a decision to start the second-half with a double substitution: Corpas and Kaptoum, who made his first debut, were replaced for Vada and Aguza. The head coach's intention seemed to improve the passing accuracy in order to finally find the net.
