1-0: Almería Women extraordinarily courageous to claim first victory

The Rojiblancas achieve success through effective teamwork to beat Olympia Las Rozas

First real joy of the 2021/22 season for UD Almería Women! The Rojiblancas clinched their first victory over Olympia Las Rozas after a lively match. With 5 minutes to go, the team led by Agustín Sánchez showed courage to find the match-winning goal courtesy of Fatima after a counter-attack.

The first Almeria Women starting XI was made up of Ani, Eva, Laura, Esther, Mireya, Anita París, Adriana, Irene, María, Marta Paz and Fátima.

The clearest goal-scoring opportunities during the first 45 minutes were created by the visiting team, yet Ani was superb between the sticks. With 20 minutes gone, the home team keeper blocked Lucía Sánchez’ powerful shot, while shortly after, the goalkeeper and Mireya avoided the goal through a goal line clearance.

Head coach Agustín Sánchez decided that the best alternative to face the second period was to increase the presence of footballers in the final third, so Paqui replaced Adriana. Precisely, the newcomer put goalie Ana Huertas to the test. The Olympia Las Rozas keeper was beginning to emerge as the team player of the match led by Lydia Vizcaíno.

UD Almería Women were gaining momentum. In fact, one of these actions would be a fine attempt by Irene from the edge of the box within 60 minutes, but the Madrid-born goalkeeper forced the ball out for a corner.

In the 65th minute, Ani once again demonstrated her great form and the confidence that she transmitted in the game, beating Iratxe in a one-on-one. However, this would be the last time that the great feeling that the visitors could get ahead would be experienced.

The girls led by Agustín Sánchez continued to put in a commanding performance in a bid to achieve a well-deserved goal, but either because of Ana Huertas' interventions or because the ball grazed the post, the goal did not arrive.

It was the 85th minute when Esther recovered the ball on the defensive line. The centre-back raised her head, saw Irene Mateos unchecked and delivered a long pass towards her, she gave it to forward Fatima who scored the match-winning goal.

UD Almería Women secured their first victory in front of 100 fans on the first Matchday competing within group IV of the Primera Nacional.
