Gonzalo Melero to serve a 4-game ban

The tough decision has been made by the RFEF disciplinary committee following the statements made by the UD Almería central midfielder after the match against Real Madrid CF and which were reported by the Technical Committee of Referees

UD Almería co-captain and central midfielder Gonzalo Melero will serve a four-game ban. The decision has been made by the RFEF Disciplinary Committee after the complaint filed by the Technical Committee of Referees for the statements made by the footballer after the match played against Real Madrid CF at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium (Matchday 25/ LaLiga EA Sports).

Following the controversial referee's ruling suffered by UD Almería which was described as 'theft', 'shame', 'scandal'… by local, regional and national media, Melero spoke in the press zone at the Bernabéu before television, radio and newspapers that were present.

'The feeling is that we were robbed. I think that nothing else could have been done from to get them back into the match. The penalty, the goal scored with the hand, the one we got chalked off due to a struggle… There's no way to take it,' stated Melero.

After this tough decision, the Club is now working to appeal the sanction so that he can be available for Saturday's fixture against CA Osasuna, since otherwise he will miss out on the involvement in the game. The Easter holidays can be a handicap for the footballer and the team.
